Well, apparently I have become the kind of person who is perpetually either packing, unpacking, planning a trip, recovering from a trip, or wondering where I left my phone charger.
This weekend’s adventure?
New York City.
And not just any trip to New York City.
My oldest niece, my oldest son, and I are headed to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway.
A Broadway show.
A first for all three of us.
Which feels slightly ridiculous considering our combined ages and the fact that we’ve all managed to make it this far in life without seeing one.
And before anyone asks… yes, I am a Harry Potter nerd.
Not a casual fan.
A real fan.
The kind with Harry Potter tattoos.
The kind with a tastefully designed Harry Potter guest room.
The kind who firmly believes there is a Harry Potter reference appropriate for almost every life situation.
So the fact that I’m finally seeing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway feels a little bit like Christmas morning for my inner nerd.
Tonight we’ll explore the Harry Potter store and soak in the city.
Tomorrow we’ll wander New York before settling into our seats for what I fully expect to be a magical evening.
Sunday we’ll visit the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, which is lit for Pride Month (yay! 🌈), and then make our way to Ground Zero (🖤🙏🏻) before heading home.
It’s one of those weekends that feels full in all the best ways.
A little adventure.
A little history.
A little magic.
A little perspective.
And honestly, I think that’s exactly what I need right now.
The last several months have been heavy.
Heeeeaaa-vy.
The kind of heavy that settles into your bones.
But every once in a while life hands you a weekend that reminds you there are still new experiences waiting to be had.
Still memories to make.
Still things to look forward to.
And if I’m being completely honest, I’m just as excited about watching my niece and son experience Broadway for the first time as I am about seeing it myself.
Also, I had exactly two drinks at the airport bar and am apparently now a complete lightweight.
Exactly.
Two.
Drinks.
So if anyone needs me, I’ll be over here questioning whether turning 50 comes with a complimentary reduction in alcohol tolerance.
For the next couple of days, though, I’m trading paperwork, moving plans, realtors, barns, and death certificates for wands, Broadway lights, and a little bit of magic.
And honestly?
That sounds pretty perfect.
More to come from the weekend.
